How Aspen Tech Labs Traded 900 Applicants for 20 Vetted Candidates with Go Carpathian
A company that tracks 11 million job listings for a living had never used a recruitment agency. Two roles, one shortlist that needed tightening, and both hires still in seat a year later.

Who Is Aspen Tech Labs?
Aspen Tech Labs, based in Colorado, has been in the hiring data business since 2008. Put simply, it tracks the job market: its Jobs Index pulls more than 11 million live job listings from over 300,000 employers in 197 countries, straight from company career sites.
Job boards, recruitment agencies, employers, and financial analysts use that data to see who’s hiring, where, and what they’re paying.
The Challenge
For years, Aspen hired through referrals. The team knew the people coming in, and they fit the culture. Then the company grew. In 2025, it needed a Sales Development Representative to build pipeline and a Content Manager to grow the brand, and the network couldn’t fill both seats fast enough.
Aspen had never used a recruitment agency, so they tried both routes at once. While Go Carpathian searched, Lana Shumyn, Director of Sales & Marketing, posted a separate UK role on a job board. It pulled in about 900 applicants in two weeks.
Every one of them needed screening, and that time came straight out of Lana’s selling hours. Clients came first, so hiring kept slipping.
“In comparison to what I’ve done on [job boards], where I spent so much time and resources on those candidates, it was very refreshing to work with you guys.”
Lana Shumyn, Director of Sales & Marketing, Aspen Tech LabsThe Solution
Aspen had their discovery call with Go Carpathian on May 5, 2025, and signed three days later. Our recruiters took the search to South Africa, where Aspen could hire native English speakers who work comfortably on UK hours.
The first shortlist wasn’t quite right. A few emails later, the brief was sharper, and so were the candidates. All told, we put about 20 vetted people in front of the team.
“After a couple of exchanges of emails and clarifying some of the requirements, we nailed it. The candidates were good.”
Lana Shumyn, Director of Sales & Marketing, Aspen Tech LabsWhen Aspen’s calendar filled up, the recruiters kept nudging until feedback came back. Lana liked that.
The new Content Manager went from first interview to offer in about two weeks.
“Usually things take weeks and weeks, and you never know where you stand. I really appreciated how efficient things went.”
Shannon, Content Manager, Aspen Tech LabsThe SDR search took a bit longer. Aspen landed Shaquille, a former recruiter who already knew the hiring world he’d be selling into.
The Results
Results at a Glance
- About 20 vetted candidates from Go Carpathian vs. roughly 900 applicants from a two-week job board search
- 3 days from discovery call to signed agreement
- About 2 weeks from first interview to offer for the Content Manager
- LinkedIn company page impressions were up 18.3%, reactions 27%, comments 33%, and reposts 25% thanks to their new Content Manager
- SDR hitting all of his targets
- Both hires still on the team over a year later
For Lana, it came down to two solid hires, no weeks lost to screening, and a clear answer on where to look next time.
Looking Ahead
Aspen’s data keeps growing, and more data means more to sell and more to explain. That’s exactly the work its SDR and Content Manager were hired to do.
Lana has already said Aspen will come back to Go Carpathian for its next South African hire, and Go Carpathian’s recruiters are ready to deliver. Two seats filled. Both are still filled over a year later, and more to come.
